BIOGRAPHY
American soprano Ellen Teufel made her professional operatic debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with West Bay Opera. She has performed in New York City with Lyra New York as the title role in Handel’s Alcina and with EnCANTA Collective as Jenny in Robert Ward’s Roman Fever, Le Feu in L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Helene in Fritz Kreisler’s Lisa. She has also been involved in the indie concert scene at Behind the Door with Vertical Player Repertory and at Ideal Glass gallery in the East Village. In 2020, she joined the dell’Arte Opera Ensemble to cover the title role in Anna Bolena. The production was postponed due to the pandemic and is now slotted for summer 2021.
Ellen was first heard abroad as Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore in Dobbiaco, Italy. She was invited to join the Pavarotti Foundation for a month of performances of Bel Canto, an Italian opera retrospective at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris. She was also heard in recital at the Teatro Olimpico, Vicenza and in outdoor summer concerts with the Thüringer Symphoniker.
Ellen attended young artist programs at Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, where she sang Die Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, Opera on the Avalon, where she performed Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, iSing International Young Artist Festival in Suzhou, China, and Bel Canto at Caramoor.
Her formal education includes Bachelor’s Degrees in Vocal Performance and German from the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University, and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music. School credits include Lucia (cover) in Lucia di Lammermoor and Mädchen in Der Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny at MSM and Countess Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro at PSU.
Ellen is a native of Erie, Pennsylvania and currently resides in New York City.
